I say summer like it’s not raining outside

“Ingroup bias tends to be stronger among minority camps, such as cyclists, who see themselves as Rosa Parks–style civil rights activists fighting to reclaim their share of the street.” Well, okay, that’s true. Actually, this whole article was pretty true. Philip Preville’s piece, All the Rage, from Toronto Life’s website, uses Toronto’s road rage problems as a background to discuss cyclist/motorist animosity and the anonymity we hide behind when we rage at one another. It’s a great article. Read the whole thing.

Not a bad article. The no lanes painted street sounds pretty cool, it would be like China!

But I still find fault with that one guy’s experiment with the helmet vs. no-helmet and how drivers drive… for all we know, HE got closer to car cuz he was “protected.”

I ride like I used to drive, aggressively, in plain view and I signal, I expect the same from cars.

yeah, and everyone’s always quoting that experiment too - all of my anti-helmet-wearing friends use it as a justification.

one of my main issues with drivers when i’m cycling is the four-way stop situation. often i’ll be waiting my turn at a four-way stop and a driver will wave me through even though it’s their turn. it angers me! i am fine with waiting to go, and for all i know, another car will try to take that opportunity to move through the intersection. it’s just dangerous.

drivers and cyclists should treat eachother as equals on the road. it’s difficult but it’s how things need to work. that said, as cyclists we can’t always follow the same rules cars do - it’s inefficient.

eventually urban infrastructure will have to evolve. i’m interested to see how that happens.
